Things You Should Do to Stop Being Hard on Yourself
It is normal to forget about the successes and remembering every little mistake you have ever made. One of the causes of depressions and other issues is dwelling on mistakes which is why it is not important for us to do it. In this article, I am going to speak about ways on how you can stop being so hard on yourself. Making a mistake is one of the valuable parts of learning. You should not see it like you are the first one to make a mistake because they are done by everyone. In many cases, when you do not know how to do something or when you mess something up is when the mistakes happen. The most important thing is what you take away from the mistakes.
For you not to repeat mistakes, you should learn how to do things right after you have made a mistake. The valuable knowledge you gain when you make mistakes is when you learn to do things right. You should remember the experiences instead or dwelling on mistakes. You will avoid repeating the same mistake next time when you do that. If you would like to stop being so hard on yourself you should not compare yourself with other people. When you compare yourself with other people, you will always be hard on yourself. For other people to be where they are today, they went through many things and also made some mistakes which you do not know and that’s why it is not right to compare yourself with them. For other people to be successful, they might have invested for a long time which is why you should not compare yourself with them also.
Instead of comparing the goals of other people, you can also achieve your goals if only will set your own targets. Everybody change and because of that, your past should not be your identity. The person you were last month is not the same one you are today if you are learning and growing. You should not base your identity on someone you used to be because of that reason. You are not defined by the mistakes you made in the past. You will always see a way to correct them even if some of those mistakes were repeated.
If you would like to stop being hard on yourself, the other thing you should do is being objective about your thoughts and emotions. Looking objectively at your emotions and ideas is the hardest thing. What you should ask yourself when you are hard on yourself is whether you could say those things to someone else. If you cannot say them, it is a good sign of stopping to be hard on yourself.
